Reimagining the tried-and-true musical festival format as a live-stream festival for social good
context
GOODFest is a live-stream music festival presented by Google’s Pixel and GOOD, a global media brand and social impact company. Per the show’s slogan, the festival comprises “5 shows. 5 Cities. 5 Causes.”
GOODFest enlisted SpecialGuest to facilitate the live stream. The goal was to bring awareness to the latest Pixel phone for an audience that loves music, and to create love for the brand through a good cause.
collaboration
SpecialGuest was a creative partner of GOODFest in 2017, leading all video content surrounding the festival.
The festival took place in Brooklyn, New Orleans, Seattle, Oakland and Los Angeles, showcasing 2017 Grammy-nominated artists such as Solange Knowles, as well as 2016 emerging artists Glass Animals and D.R.A.M.
concept
We led all video content surrounding the festival including tech development, the execution of a five-camera switching system for live streamed events, and a system to capture 360 video.
We also concepted, designed, and produced the Pixel Rig, a Pixel phone attached to a glowing neon rectangle, that attendees used to capture and share photos and videos.
Thanks to the featured talent and the innovative video approach, GOODFest garnered over 9.5 million live-stream and video views, and 15 million people used #GOODFest on Instagram and Twitter. About 23 million engaged with GOOD Facebook content. Three out of five shows were sold out, and all proceeds went to nonprofits DonorsChoose.org, Equal Justice Initiative, 350 Seattle, Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Son of a Saint, and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
