Showing off the camera you always wanted

context

The Google Hardware team partnered with SpecialGuest to launch its latest Pixel device in the spring of 2019. The most important feature to exhibit was the Pixel 3a’s Night Sight mode on the camera.

SpecialGuest's then Creative Director Lake Buckley took the lead along with SpecialGuest's founder, Aaron Duffy, to create a video with a fluid story, in which the Pixel 3a device was passed the device from one set of hands to the next. This commercial video aired at the Google I/O conference and during the NBA playoffs.

concept

In the video, sometimes the device was passed manually, but mostly it was attached to a robot arm that was carefully choreographed for each scene. SpecialGuest performed a 100 percent accurate and true on-set capture process to prove the abilities of the camera’s Night Sight mode. The commercial also spotlighted the all-day, all-night battery life and the return of the sacred headphone jack, which comments below the YouTube video showed was the real fan favorite of this device. What is dead may never die.
